This is a quote or saying that has been around for centuries. It’s similar to the biblical saying, “seek and you shall find”. There’s two variations of this quote I came across in listening to lectures from Tony Robbins.

I am no philosopher but I believe there’s a big idea behind this quote. Here’s my take:
Life is indifferent towards our feelings.
We are born on this earth and we get bombarded with stimuli and our sensory organs detect these changes and we respond. We do this for an average of 79 years and then we die.
Everything that happens, is happening inside you.
It’s all in our brain.
Tony says, “So whatever we focus on, it tends to show up in our life. It’s working on your underlying philosophy of how you see the world which influences what you’ll find and how you’ll interact with it. Getting people to have the courage and the faith to realize there there’s no security in life and there is no security in relationship, there’s only what you can contribute. There’s only what you can create.”
As Jim Rohn puts, “stand guard at the door of your mind” he advises not to let anyone dump whatever they want in your mental factory because you’ll have to live with result. You can’t expect a rich, dynamic, spiritual life with garbage in your head.
A child asked of him, how do you build the good life?
His reply, is how do you build anything? You get the right ingredients and keep out the wrong ingredients, and it starts with thought, everything starts with thought. If your best friend or your worse enemy puts strychnine in your coffee you’ll be dead, so it doesn’t matter who hands you the wrong stuff. All that matters is if you get the wrong stuff and it’ll do it’s damage on your bank account, your relationships, your friendships, spiritually and financially. It’ll destroy you.
So the idea is be very careful of what you go looking for, because whatever you look for you will find. And what you go looking for is who you’ll become. If you care enough you will get the answer or whatever it is you are seeking. Whether that’s wealth, relationships, adventure, danger if it’s your sole focus you’ll find a way. You may also want to examine your limiting beliefs because as Tony says, “when you decide you can’t find something, you’ll also discover you won’t find it.”
